Participants in Mentor Manor received a bit of recognition and a thank you from the district on Wednesday, Jan. 31 during the Mentor Manor appreciation luncheon hosted by the Student and Family Support Services department. At the event, dozens of participants heard from others in the program about the life-changing effects of being a mentor.
The luncheon, hosted by Mentor Manor Coordinator Mayra Hernandez, also featured performances from the New Tech High School orchestra and Pioneer Crossing Elementary School choir. A video showing the power that mentoring has on students also played, and Dr. Royce Avery, a mentor himself, thanked the audience for participating in the program.
Mentor Manor is an initiative that matches adult mentors with student mentees at Manor ISD. Mentor Manor serves all 15 campuses in the district. The program coordinator recruits mentors from businesses, faith-based organizations, colleges and universities, neighborhood associations and throughout the Manor and Austin communities. Employees of district partners such as Samsung and Applied Materials often serve as mentors as well.
If you are interested in becoming a mentor, please contact Mentor Manor Coordinator Mayra Hernandez at firstname.lastname@example.org.
